Should immigrants have a legal obligation to learn the local language? Why, or why not?
yes! as we all know, communication can not be properly work without an effective common language. Therefore, immigrant need to be self taught of our local language mainly, our official language, Bahasa Melayu. For many reason, if immigrant came here to work, for example, contract paper for them is written neither in English or Bahasa Melayu. The content shall be fully understood by parties involved and it can be quite a mess if any parties misinterpreted one. Another reason is, for the safety of the immigrant themselves to avoid from being cheated by opportunist who want to take advantage from them. They also can defend themselves by stating their rights with local language that everybody in Malaysia can understand. learning local language is an advantage for them.
